Job Description

Location: Plano, TX 

Job Type: 13-Week Travel Assignment 

Schedule: Monday–Friday | 10:30 AM–7:00 PM | 5×8s 

Hours: 40 hours/week

Payrate: $71.06 / Hour

About the Role

We are seeking a Surgical Technologist 1 with CVOR experience to support the surgical team during operative procedures. Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, this role assists with surgical instrumentation, equipment, sterile technique, surgical counts, specimen handling, and maintaining a safe operating room environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room according to scheduled surgical procedures.
  • Set up sterile instrument tables, supplies, and equipment.
  • Prepare the operative site using appropriate aseptic techniques.
  • Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are functioning properly.
  • Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and other items.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team.
  • Pass sterile supplies and equipment during surgical procedures.
  • Assist with patient draping and positioning.
  • Receive and properly handle surgical specimens according to protocol.
  • Assist with placement of surgical dressings.
  • Disassemble and prepare surgical instrumentation following procedures.
  • Prepare soiled instruments for transportation to the decontamination area.
  • Support the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, maintenance, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Clean the operating room and return equipment to appropriate storage areas.
  • Follow infection control, AORN, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of surgical technologist experience in CVOR.
  • CST certification required; grandfathered candidates are accepted.
  • BLS – AHA only required.
  • Knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and sterilization standards.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a surgical and central sterile processing team.

Education / Training

Successful completion of a CAAHEP-accredited or other nationally accredited surgical technologist program, or formal surgical technology training through the U.S. military or U.S. Public Health Service. A one-year operating room technician program is preferred.
