Combo Welder/Fitter – Charleston, MO
Job Description
We are seeking experienced Combo Fitter/Welders to perform barge repair and marine fabrication work along the Mississippi River in Charleston, Missouri. Candidates must be proficient in structural fitting, 3/16" 6010 stick welding, and oxy-fuel torch cutting and washing of welds.
Essential Duties
- Perform structural fitting and welding on barges and marine vessels.
- Weld structural steel using 3/16" 6010 stick electrode.
- Perform fillet and groove welds in various positions.
- Read and interpret drawings, measurements, and welding requirements.
- Use an oxy-fuel cutting torch for cutting, fitting, beveling, and washing welds.
- Fit, align, tack, and secure steel plates, frames, stiffeners, and other structural components.
- Grind, clean, and prepare weld areas as required.
- Perform barge repair and general shipyard labor duties.
Qualifications
- Previous barge repair, shipyard, or heavy structural steel experience required.
- Proficient with 3/16" 6010 stick welding.
- Strong oxy-fuel torch skills, including washing welds.
- Ability to fit and align structural steel accurately.
- Ability to work in multiple welding positions.
- Ability to read basic drawings and take accurate measurements.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to work around vessels, steel structures, elevated areas, and confined spaces.
- Must provide and properly use required PPE.
Preferred Skills
- Experience repairing towboats, barges, or other inland marine vessels.
- Experience with air carbon arc gouging.
- FCAW/MIG welding experience.
