Pipefitter Supervisor | Sturgeon Bay, WI

We are seeking an experienced Pipefitting Supervisor to lead pipefitting operations supporting the repair, maintenance, and new construction of commercial vessels at a Great Lakes shipyard in Northeast Wisconsin. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in marine pipefitting and a proven ability to supervise skilled trades personnel in a fast-paced shipyard environment.  The Pipefitting Supervisor is responsible for planning and directing daily work activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer specifications, classification society requirements, and production schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate all pipefitting activities for commercial vessel repair, conversion, and new construction projects.
• Lead and mentor teams of pipefitters, helpers, apprentices, and subcontractors while promoting a safe and productive work environment.
• Plan daily work assignments, monitor progress, and adjust manpower to meet project schedules and production goals.
• Read and interpret piping drawings, isometric drawings, P&IDs, blueprints, ship specifications, and technical manuals.
• Coordinate fabrication, installation, repair, testing, and commissioning of shipboard piping systems.
• Oversee installation and repair of: Fuel oil systems Lube oil systems Hydraulic piping Ballast systems Bilge systems Fire suppression systems Potable water systems Sanitary and gray water systems Steam and condensate systems Compressed air systems Cooling water and seawater piping
• Coordinate work with welding, electrical, mechanical, production, engineering, and quality control departments to minimize schedule conflicts.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, shipyard safety policies, confined space requirements, hot work procedures, and lockout/tagout practices.
• Monitor productivity, labor hours, material usage, and equipment requirements.
• Conduct quality inspections to ensure work meets customer specifications and applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Prior experience working in a commercial shipyard is required.
• Experience supporting commercial ship repair and/or new construction of marine vessels is required.
• Minimum of 7 years of marine pipefitting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or lead role.
• Strong knowledge of shipboard piping systems, fabrication techniques, installation methods, and repair procedures.
• Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, and other piping materials commonly used in marine applications.
• Ability to read and interpret piping drawings, blueprints, specifications, and isometric drawings.
• Working knowledge of marine valves, pumps, heat exchangers, and mechanical equipment associated with piping systems.
• Experience coordinating hydrostatic testing, flushing, pressure testing, and system commissioning.
• High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on Great Lakes commercial vessels, tugboats, barges, ferries, self-unloaders, bulk carriers, or government vessels.
• Knowledge of ABS, U.S. Coast Guard, and other marine classification society standards.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
• Experience with shipyard planning, labor forecasting, and production scheduling.
• Familiarity with welding procedures and marine fabrication practices.
